Investigation of posttravmatic growth and care burden effect on caregivers life quality whose patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia

This study is a cross-sectional and correlational study in the relational screening model and it was conducted to investigate the effect of caregivers on the post-traumatic development and care burden of schizophrenic patients. The research was conducted between 01.10.2014 and 15.10.2015 in Kayseri Education and Research Hospital Community Mental Health Center and Psychiatry Clinic in Kayseri. In the selection of samples, purposive sampling method was used from non-selective sampling methods and 146 persons were included in the study. In the collection of data; Sociodemographic Information Form, Posttravmatic Growth Inventory, Zarit Care Burden Scale and WHOQOL-BREF-TR were used. The data were collected by face-to-face interview method. The obtained data were analyzed by number, percentage, frequency and multiple linear regression analysis in SPSS 23 package program in computer environment. The post-traumatic growth has affected the quality of life, psychological state (p<.05, β= .157) and social relations (p<.05, β=.067) dimension in the person himself, the change of life quality physical health (p<.05, β=.226) and psychological state (p<.05, β=.339) dimension in life philosophy, change in relation with other people influenced the quality of life environment (p<.05, β=.389) dimension positively and meaningfully. As the post-traumatic growth increased, the quality of life increased. It has been determined that the burden of care has a significant impact on the quality of life, physical health (p<.05, β= -.119) and psychological status (p<.05, β= -.266) dimension, and that as the burden of caregivers increases, the physical health and psychological status of life quality decrease. It is important from the point of view of examining the influence of caregivers on quality of life in work. It is proposed that the policies and programs for schizophrenia patients and their families should be developed and that the post-traumatic growth and care burden effect dimension should also be considered.
