Evaluation of the exhaustion level of schoolteachers (The case of İstanbul )

In this paper, ?the exhaustion level of schoolteachers? who works for the public schools is analyzed. The paper consists of seven chapters, which are the introduction and the problem; the exhaustion; the related literature; the basic concepts on the education and training; the method; the outcomes and interpretation; discussion sections and conclusion. In this paper, the criteria such as age, sex, marital status, education level, training period and the number of students they teach are taken into consideration in order to find the differences between the exhaustion levels of the schoolteachers. The research was conducted on 267 schoolteachers who were working for the primary schools in Bahcelievler, Istanbul, in 2005-2006 training season. As a means of data collection a personal information form and the Maslach Exhaustion Inventory which has 22 articles and three sub-articles were used. The data was analyzed by the student-t test and the variance analysis. The Fivefold Likert Type behaviour measurement was used for the research. The difference from the expected average is reified with the level of &=0,01. In order to find the differences between the groups according to the personal features the Scheffe Test is applied. The consequences found as a result of the research are as follow: It?s proved that the average of the emotional exhaustion level of schoolteachers is low, the average of their insensitiveness level is normal and the average of personal success is high. It?s also proved that the emotional exhaustion level of the schoolteachers and their insensitiveness level show differences according to their age. It?s found that the emotional exhaustion levels of schoolteachers who are between 21-30 of age are higher than the ones who are 51 and the above; the difference takes place also between the same groups in the case of personal success. But in this case, the latter group is more successful than the former. Key Word: exhaustion, schoolteacher, education-training.
