Abstract (EN)
Infinity is a concept that has been a wonder since the time man first gazed upon the starry skies and still continues to be a source of interest. Infinity may signify the endlessness of time or space. . In the context of temporality due to concepts of immortality and eternity it carries a divine quality. In the context of spatiality it is taken as a multitude, a size immeasurable and a topic of mathematics. Infinity that has been a topic of interest to a number of thinkers since the Ancient Greece, is assessed in two different ideas mentioned formerly. In the first chapter, approaches of the thinkers focused on the concept of infinity is discussed. Concept of infinity, started with the Ancient Greek philosophers and related with god by the religion rooted approach of Renaissance Europe, had also been a topic of interest of Islamic thinkers. In the subchapter "Idea of infinity in the Age of Enlightenment and Modern Era" ideas about the infinity of thinkers since the Age of Enlightenment is explained. In the second chapter "Theories and Paradoxes of Infinity" attempts to explain the infinity by mathematics and logic and diverse results reached is described. The most known paradoxes about infinity is told in this chapter. The third chapter reports on the forms, symbols and the visual elements used to describe infinity through the course of history. In the last chapter sculptures in which the concept of infinity is involved in the process of forming is described in three subchapters. These are sculptures to which infinity is projected symbolically, sculptures based on the proposition of endless continuity of the form and sculptures consist of illusions of infinity created by using reflectors.
