Abstract (EN)
The importance of the blended learning model has increased with the inclusion of instructional technologies in the education process. Blended learning is the combination of the advantages of online and face-to-face learning. One of the sub-models of the blended learning model is the flipped classroom model. Thanks to this model, students have the opportunity to listen to the lesson at home and practice it in the classroom. The flipped classroom model allows teachers to be active during the lesson. The use of the flipped classroom model, which is widely used in many parts of the world, is new in our country. It is wrong to think that one method is suitable for all learning areas and subjects. Here, the content of the subjects, the teacher's aptitude for the method, course duration, class size, etc. are taken into account. Many factors influence the choice of method. The aim of this study is to determine teachers' opinions on the use of the flipped classroom model in the teaching of the Global Connections learning area in the Social Studies course. The phenomenological pattern, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. The study group of the research consists of 17 Social Studies teachers working in public schools in Başakşehir district of Istanbul. Having used the flipped learning model at least once was taken as a criterion in determining the participants. Semi-structured interview technique, which is frequently used in qualitative research, was used to collect data in the study. During the study, semi-structured items in the previously developed interview form were directed to the participants. In the study, the majority of the participants stated that the flipped classroom model was advantageous compared to other methods in teaching the Global Connections learning area. According to the participants, students' involvement in the learning process increases their activity. However, some participants think that the method should be used supported by different methods and techniques. According to the participants, the flipped classroom model is effective in gaining the value of sensitivity to cultural heritage in the field of Global Connections learning. Participants stated that it would be beneficial for students to research their cultural values in advance through the method. It was stated that with the method, students will become familiar with the steps of scientific research and thus their creativity skills will develop. It has been stated that students' perspectives will differ and their critical thinking skills will develop through research assignments. According to the participants, students' learning about organizations that affect our country and the world will be effective in imparting the values of peace and respect. Participants are of the opinion that homework given to students individually will improve their cooperation skills through discussions with their friends in the classroom environment. Participants are of the opinion that with the flipped classroom model, students' awareness of today's world problems will increase and their problem-solving skills will improve. Participants are of the opinion that stereotypes and prejudices can be eliminated or reduced with the model, but the method cannot be used efficiently in crowded classes.
