Abstract (EN)
The main purpose of the present study is to examine social media addiction with respect to trust and satisfaction in romantic relationships. The participants of the study were 197 adults (167 females, 30 males) over the age of 18 and currently having romantic relationship minimum for 6 months with same partner. Data were gathered randomly via internet by administering four instruments; Social Media Addiction Scale- Adult Form, The Dyadic Trust Scale, Relationship Satisfaction Scale and Demographic Information Form. Correlations between research variables tested by Pearson correlation analysis. According to the findings of this analysis, there was a statistically significant and negative correlation between the values of social media addiction and trust in romantic relationships. Accordingly it was seen that if the the level of social media addiction increases 'trust'in romantic relationship decreases. Consistent with the literature, there was a statistically significant and positive correlation between trust and satisfaction in romantic relationships. As a result of first hierarchical regression analysis, age and trust in romantic relationships were found to be associated with the relationship satisfaction. This association indicated that if the age of participants increases, relationship satisfaction decreases. And consistent with the literature trust was found to be associated with the relationship satisfaction, participants having higher levels of trust reported higher levels of relationship satisfaction. As a result of second hierarchical regression analysis, there was no association found between demographic variables and trust in relationships, however social media addiction was significantly associated with the trust in romantic relationship. This association indicated that as expected, participants having higher levels of social media addiction reported lower levels of trust in romantic relationship. Findings were discussed in the light of the relevant literature. Finally implications of the study and recommendations for further research are presented. Keywords: Social Media Addiction, Trust in Romantic Relationships, Satisfaction in Romantic Relationships.
