Investigation of high school students' future anxiety in the context of socioeconomic status variables and school types

The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between school types and socioeconomic variables of high school students and their future anxiety. A total of 561 students, 268 girls and 293 boys, between the ages of 13-18, attending high scholl and agreeing to participate in the research, participated in the study. First of all, "Personal Information Form" and "Beck Hopelessness Scale" tests were applied to all students. A significant difference was found between the gender status of high school students and their future anxieties. (p<0.05). Girls have a higher level of future anxiety compared to boys. A significant difference was found between the mother's working status and future anxiety of high school students (p<0.05). Students whose mothers are working have a higher level of future anxiety than students whose mothers are not working. A significant difference was found between the mother's education level and future anxiety of high school students (p<0.05). Students whose mothers are university graduates have a higher level of future anxiety than students whose mothers are high school and high school graduates. A significant difference was found between the school types of high school students and their future anxiety (p<0.05). Anatolian high school students have higher future anxiety levels than imam hatip high school and vocational high school students. A significant difference was found between the grade levels of high school students and their future anxiety (p<0.05). Grade 10 students have less future anxiety than Grade 11 and 12 students. A significant difference was found between the number of siblings of high school students and their future anxieties (p<0.05). Students with 5 or more siblings have more future anxiety than students with less than 5 siblings. In ourstudy, a significant difference wasfound in the level of future anxiety of higHigh school students according to the socio-economic variables of mother's employment status and mother's education level. In addition, it has been determined that Anatolian high school students have higher future anxiety levels compared to imam hatip high school and vocational high school students according to school types
