Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted with 105 female and 186 male volunteer students at Gaziantep University in Gaziantep province to evaluate the nutrional habits, sports nutrition knowledge level and anthropometric measurements of 1st and 4th grade students studying at the Faculty of Sports Sciences between February and April 2021 due to the covid-19 epidemic done remotely via the internet. In the study, "Sports Nutrition Knowledge Scale (SSBS)" was applied. The questionnaire includes demographic characteristics, health information, nutritional habits, frequency of food consumption for the last month and anthropometric measurements (height, weight, waist, hip circumference). A total of 111 1st grade students and 180 4th grade students participated in the research. 46.8% of 1st grade students and 51.7% of 4th grade students stated that they skipped meals. When the water consumption of the students was examined, 46.8% of the 1st graders and 60% of the 4th graders stated that they consumed 2 liters or more of water per day.A significant correlation was found between water consumption according to the class of education (p=0.019). The mean Body Mass Index (BMI) values of the 1st and 4th grade students participating in the study were 22.9±2.3 kg/m2 and 23.2±2.7 kg/m2, respectively (p>0,05). It was observed that waist, hip circumference, waist/height and waist/hip ratio were similar in classes (p>0,05). When the scores they got from SBSS were examined, 1st grade students got 40.4±26.5 points and 4th grade students got 48.9±33.1 points, and a significant correlation was found between the grade they studied and the score obtained from SBSS (p=0,023). In the sub-dimensions of the scale, the average score obtained from factor 1-weight control, factor 4-sports nutrition and 5-supplement was found to be significantly higher in 4th grade students than in 1st grade students (p>0,05).As a result, although it was determined that the 4th year students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences were more knowledgeable about sports nutrition than the 1st year students, it was seen that the students were generally insufficient. It is thought that the level of knowledge on this subject can be increased by giving seminars and conferences in addition to the courses in schools related to this subject.
