İnvestigation of the relationship between sports high school students academic self-efficiency levels and their attitudes to sports (The case of Aydin)

this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between the academic self-efficacy levels of sports high school students and their attitudes towards sports. While the universe of the study consists of students studying in Sports High Schools, the sample of the research consists of students of Aydın İncirliova Sports High School in the 2021-2022 academic year. The data were delivered to the participants via Google Forms and participation was voluntary. A total of 221 people were reached, and as a result of the outlier analysis, 3 forms were not evaluated and a total of 218 forms were evaluated. As a data collection tool, the personal information created by the researcher was used in the first part, and the Academic Self-Efficacy (AÖY) scale, which was developed by Owen and Froman (1988) and adapted into Turkish by Ekici (2012), was used in the second part. In the third part, the attitude scale towards sports developed by Şentürk (2012) was used. In this study, the research findings were made with the SPSS 25.0 package program in line with the data obtained from the participants. Descriptive statistics and frequency distributions were calculated to determine the participants' gender, age, class level, parental education status, income status, number of siblings, sports branches they did, and whether there were any other sportsmen in the family. As a result of the Kolmogorov Smirnov test, which was performed to determine that the data did not show normal distribution, the parametric test assumptions were not met As a result, Mann Whitney U test was applied for binary variables and Kruskal Wallis H test was applied for more than two variables. In addition, the Spearman correlation coefficient (r) was used to determine whether there is a relationship between self-efficacy levels and attitudes towards sports. In addition, the relationship between academic self-efficacy and attitudes towards sports was tested with Spearman's sequential relationship (rho). As a result of the research, it is seen that the participants' total academic self-efficacy scores, social status, cognitive practices, and technical skills dimensions are at a moderate level. It is seen that the Attitudes towards Sports of the participants are high in the scale total score, they are very high in the dimensions of being interested in sports and doing active sports, and they are at a moderate level in the dimension of living with sports. As a result of the Kruskal Wallis H Test conducted between the age variable of the participants and their academic self-efficacy levels, there was a statistically significant difference only in the dimension of technical skills, There was a statistically significant difference in the total score of the scale and all sub-dimensions as a result of the Kruskal Wallis H Test performed between the age variable and the attitudes towards sports, As a result of the Mann Witney U Test conducted between the gender variable and academic self-efficacy levels, there was a statistically significant difference only in the dimension of technical skills , As a result of the Mann Whitney U Test conducted between gender variable and attitudes towards sports, there was a statistically significant difference in the dimensions of living with sports and doing active sports, There was a statistically significant difference in the total score of the scale and all sub-dimensions as a result of the Kruskal Wallis H Test performed between the class variable and their attitudes towards sports, The Kruskal Wallis H Test performed between the mother's educational status variable and academic self-efficacy levels revealed a statistically significant difference only in the technical skills dimension, As a result of the Kruskal Wallis H Test performed between the mother's educational status variable and their attitudes towards sports, there was a statistically significant difference only in the dimension of doing active sports, As a result of Kruskal Wallis H Test conducted between the number of siblings variable and academic self-efficacy levels, there was a statistically significant difference only in the dimension of technical skills, It is seen that there is a statistically significant difference in the scale total score, interest in sports and active sports dimensions as a result of the Kruskal Wallis H Test performed between the variable of being involved in other sports in the family and their attitudes towards sports. Spearman correlation analysis was conducted between the participants' academic self-efficacy and their attitudes towards sports. As a result of the analysis, it is concluded that there is a statistically significant and low level relationship between academic technical skills and living with sports (r=194 p<0.05).
