The effect of sport characters of sports high school students on their exercise addiction levels

This study was aimed to determine the effect of sports characters of sports high school students on exercise addiction. In the research, the participants were reached face to face with the questionnaire form and voluntariness was taken as a basis in the research. A total of 251 participants were reached and as a result of the outlier analysis, 9 scale forms were excluded from the evaluation and a total of 242 forms were evaluated. In the research, personal information form, Sports Character Scale developed by Jang (2013) and adapted into Turkish by Görgüt & Tuncel (2017), and Exercise Addiction Scale for Young People developed by Lichenstein et al. (2018) and adapted into Turkish by Dokuzoğlu et al. SPSS 25.0 package program was used for data analysis. Statistically, frequency analysis, reliability coefficient calculations, Pearson correlation analysis, hierarchical regression analysis and Manova analysis were performed. The analysis was performed according to the 95% confidence interval. In the distribution of the data, the kurtosis skewness coefficient was examined and it was seen that the data were distributed between ±2 and it was determined that the data were normally distributed. In the analysis, frequency percentage calculations, Cronbach alpha coefficient, Manova analysis, Pearson correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis were performed. It is seen that there is a statistically significant differentiation between the participants' sports character and gender variable; between the participants' exercise addictions and the frequency of doing sports (p<0.05). As a result, it is concluded that the increase in the sport character variable increases the exercise addiction.
