Abstract (EN)

Disability concept refers to those individuals, who have restraints on joining to the society equally with other individuals due to their various physical, mental, spiritual and sensory abilities at various levels. Sportive activities have numerous benefits and contribute to the physical and mental maturation of the individuals. They have also a special meaning for the people with disabilities. In this research, it is aimed to determine whether a sport has an impact on the emotional needs of students with or without hearing impairment, and the hearing impaired by means of anxiety and shyness. A questionnaire was applied to students studying at various schools within the Van Provincial Directorate of National Education in order to compare the academic motivation levels of hearing impaired students, attending sportive activities or not. The Academic Motivation Scale developed by Vallerand et al. in 1992 in Canada and adapted to Turkish by Karagüven (2012) was used in the research. According to the results of the study; significant differences were found in the intrinsic motivation achievement sub-dimension levels of the students who do sports and those who do not, and the levels of extrinsic motivation, self-proof and regulation levels, significant differences were found according to the income levels, height and weight distribution. As a result of the study, it can be seen that sports has a great effect on students, and sports contribute positively to the academic motivation of the hearing impaired. It was also concluded that the motivation of hearing impaired athletes to be involved in sportive activities is higher than those who are not involved in. As it was concluded from this research, it was understood that new studies to be conducted for different age and disability types may provide valuable effects in terms of participation in sports and implementation of activities that will encourage people to this end.
