Examination of the relationship between intelligence and motivationin athletes

In this study, it was aimed to examine the emotional intelligence and sports participation motivations of the active licensed students of Tekirdağ Ministry of Youth and Sports according to various variables. The research group consists of a total of 300 athletes, 148 (49.3%) female and 152 (50.7%) male, active licensed students affiliated to the Tekirdağ Ministry of Youth and Sports. Personal Information Form, Emotional Intelligence Inventory in Sports, and Sports Motivation Scale II were used as data collection tools in the research. Shapiro-Wilk test was applied to determine whether the data showed a normal distribution. In comparison of scale data, Independent Samples T Test was applied for paired groups and One Way Anova test was applied for groups of three or more. Tukey, one of the Post Hoc tests, was used to determine between which groups there were significant differences as a result of the One Way Anova test. In addition, Pearson Correlation analysis was applied to determine the relationship between the emotional intelligence and motivation of the participants. According to the findings of the research, significant differences were determined between the variables of gender, age, education level, school type, undergraduate year, nationality and parental attitude. However, a significant difference was found in the relationship between emotional intelligence and motivation. When the results of the research are examined, it can be said that these variables play a decisive role in emotional intelligence levels and motivations.
