Hepatoprotective effect of pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) in a rabbit model of steatohepatitis

Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is, exhibit the effects liver protection, activities and probable side effects of liophilized pomegranate juice extract on steatohepatitis rabbit model. In this study; male, 5 months old, between 2-4 kg weight, non paathogen 48 New Zealand rabbit were used. This study conducted in 2 main groups, totally in 8 subgroups. First group rabbit fed with standart diet, second group rabbits fed with high fatty diet. Three different dose of liophilized pomegranate extract were given simultaneusly to rabbit during eight weeks. At the and of the study rabbits were euthaised and blood and tissue samples were taken and evoluted Biochemical result; serum ALB consentration was significantly different in Group 2.4. (100mg/kg extract) (4,04 0,10) compare with the possitive control group. Serum TC consantrotion was lowest measured in Group 2.3 (96,71 12,03). At histopathologic examination of group 2, no statistical difference was found, lowest get deporition degree at Gruop 2.3. (50mg/kg extract) and %26,49 8,64 was measured. At oxidan and antioxidant status; of Group 2 the lowest GSH consantration, similar to other parameters detected in group 2.3. (23,24 2,85).As a result in this study; liophilized total pomegranate extract was evaluated above hepatoprotective activity and most effective dossage 50mg/kg was determined on NASH rabbit model. There was no side effects were detected the usage of up to 100 mg/kg pomegranate juice extract on rabbits.
