Abstract (EN)
The ancient city of Stratonikeia, one of the settlements in the interior of the Caria Region, changed hands between the Hellenistic Kingdoms and the important economic and political powers of the region during the Hellenistic Period. The city was not in a position to mint coins from this period under the rule of these sovereign powers until 168 BC, and for this reason, the coins of Hellenistic Kingdoms and Rhodos the were officially circulated in the city. Roman civic coinage of the city continued from the reign of Augustus until the reign of Gallienus. From the second half of the 3rd century AD, the city stopped minting its own coins like other cities due to inflation. The coin finds from the Stratonikeia excavation include coins associated with the settlement layers of the Classical, Hellenistic, Roman, Late Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Periods, as well as coins of European origin and findings on the use of money. The subject of this project, which was carried out within the scope of a doctoral thesis, is the Hellenistic, Roman, Late Roman, Byzantine and European coins unearthed during the excavations in and around Stratonikeia. In addition, as a result of this study, comprehensive information about the economy and commercial relations of Stratonikeia and its Territorium has been obtained for the with the study of all the coins found during the excavations.
