Abstract (EN)

This study includes a comparative analysis of the "monomyth" theory in Joseph Campbell's "The Infinite Journey of the Hero" on Hodja Masud's "Süheyl ü Nevbahâr" (14th century) and Lâmi'î Çelebi's "Vâmık u Azrâ" (16th century) masnavis. Joseph Campbell, in his book "The Infinite Journey of the Hero" (1949), identified recurring patterns in narratives based on the archetypal images identified by Carl Gustav Jung. According to Campbell, the adventures of heroes in narratives progress through certain steps and these steps come from mythological roots and psychology. As a result of his studies, Campbell identified recurring, cyclical heroic motifs in different texts and put forward the "monomyth" theory as a result of his mythology and psychology research. In this thesis, Campbell's "monomyth" theory is taken as the center and the stages the heroes go through are determined according to the "monomyth" theory. In addition, the symbolic equivalents of the archetypes of mother, shadow, persona, old sage, anima-animus, self, trickster are determined and the journey of the heroes is analyzed with mythological connections. The analyzes were made comparatively between the female protagonists and male protagonists in the two masnavi. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the plot of the mesnevis is largely in accordance with Campbell's "monomyth". This study, in which two mesnevis were compared, enabled the similarities and differences between the monomyths and archetypes to be revealed and the mythological reflections in the mesnevis to be determined. In the analyzed works, mythological, psychological and literary elements are intertwined. Therefore, while analyzing these works with the archetypal criticism method, the data of three fields were evaluated. Such studies on works of classical literature are quite new. It is hoped that this study will contribute to the literature in terms of method and perspective.
