The concept of sustainability and its effect on clothing design

Production and consumption have increased due to industrialization, population growth, technological developments, globalization and important breaking points in which some philosophical approaches have played a role in the development of world history. The destruction of nature, environment, animal and plant species, which were most affected by these developments, was tolerated.Rapid consumption culture has had negative effects on the limited resources and ecosystem of nature. The negative developments led to the rapid depletion of resources, the destruction of nature and the gradual deterioration of human health.The economic and social deterioration triggered by the developments brought along problems.Care should be taken to ensure that products such as clothes, accessories and home textiles, which are one of the most basic needs of human, are sustainable in the Textile and Fashion sector, by protecting human and environmental health.The desire to keep up with the changes in the ever-changing world order brings up the consumer societies that desire the new different in all circumstances, and trends that last less than six months in the fashion world. Designs, by leaning their back on these trends, move away from the problem-solving action, which is their main definition, and present current problems such as globalization, sustainability and other environmental needs. The sector should turn to the concept of sustainability for the purpose of leaving livable areas for future generations by slowing down consumption for short term trends.In the thesis study, it is aimed to investigate and analyze the effect of the concept of sustainability on garment design.
