Opinions of classroom teachers and social studies teachers in values education according to SWOT analysis

When today's events are considered, increasing crime rates, and people who become individualized with the difficulties of urban life, it has been understood the importance of values and the values education more and more. The aim of this thesis is to improve values education to a better level by identifying our strengths, weaknesses, and the opportunities and the threats. It is a necessity to take certain precautions for the future by understanding the current situation in values education. In this research, "generel screening model" which is one of the quantitive research models was used. After being made a literature review, the questions were categorized according to the sub-dimensions of the SWOT analysis and the answers of the teachers were transcribed. Following that, the teachers answered the questions and they stated their opinions to values educaiton according to the categories of the SWOT analysis. İn accordance with this, the teachers stated that the strongest aspect in values education is social activities which is made as an activity in schools. The most frequently reported weakness was that parents behaved unconsciously and uncontrollably on their children's use of social media. According to the teachers, the opprtunity in values education is to gain importance of values educaiton in society.In addition to this, the biggest threat in values education is a dilemma between values which are learnt at school and values which are learnt at home. The SWOT analysis aims to reduce the threats while increasing the strengths. In addition, it aims to increase the opportunities while reducing the weakness, and that is why it is important to keep the attempt alive. So, as in every field of education, we can build our future better way by being aware of both the truths and the mistakes which are made in the values education.
