11 THE ATTITUDES OF THE INSTRUCTORS AND THE SENIOR STUDENTS AT MUSICOLOGY DEPARTMENTS OF THE FINE ARTS FACULTIES AND THE CONSERVATORIES IN TURKISH REPUBLIC TOWARD PIANO EDUCATION BAHAR GÜDEK ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to determine the attitudes of the instructors and the senior students at the musicology departments of the fine arts faculties and the conservatories in Turkey toward piano education. The population of this study is the instructors and senior students at musicology departments of the fine arts faculties and the conservatories in Turkey. The samples were drawn from the instructors and senior students at the musicology depatments of Dokuz Eylül University, Atatürk University, Erciyes University Fine Arts Faculty, Hacettepe University, İstanbul Technical University and Yıldız Technical University. The present study is designed as case study. The data is collected through literature review and administering a questionnaire to the samples. The result of the study showed that the function of piano education in musicology cannot be defined clearly neither by the instructors nor the senior students.lt has also been observed that the senior musicology students cannot relate their piano study whit the area they receive education. In conclusion, recommendations about using piano in musicology more functionally were made. Key Words: Musicology, piano education.
