Investigation of the effect of TAG TEAM patient safety simulation on nursing students' learning and satisfaction

This study was aimed to determine the Turkish validity and reliability of SPSSES and to evaluate the impact of nursing students' simulation experience related to learning and patient safety on their satisfaction. The adaptation process of SPSSES to Turkish culture was designed as a methodological study. The sample consisted of 145 students from the Department of Nursing at Yüksek İhtisas University. Validity and reliability analyses indicated that the scale demonstrated high internal consistency and construct validity (α=0,981; RMSEA=0,048; p<0,05). In the second phase of the study, which involved the TTPSS intervention, a convergent parallel mixed-methods design was employed. The study was conducted with 47 nursing students from the Department of Nursing at Yüksek İhtisas University. Quantitative data were collected using the Descriptive Personal Information Form, the Patient Safety Knowledge Level Test, and 'SPSSES'. Qualitative data were obtained through face-to-face focus-group interviews. Significant differences were found between the participants' pre-test scores and first retention test scores (p=0.014), pre-test scores and second retention test scores (p<0,001), and pre-test scores and post-test scores (p<0,001). These results statistically demonstrate that the TTPSS application improved students' learning levels in the short term and supported long-term knowledge retention. Additionally, students reported a high level of satisfaction with their TTPSS experience. The qualitative data obtained from focus group interviews were analyzed using Colaizzi's seven-step method, revealing three main themes and ten sub-themes. The main themes were identified as 'Awareness,' 'Personal Gains,' and ''Transition from a Simulated to a Real Environment'. The findings confirm that the SPSSES is a valid and highly reliable insturment for use among nursing students in the Turkish context. Moreover, the TTPSS intervention positively contributed to nursing students' learning experiences and satisfaction levels regarding patient safety. The qualitative findings also support these results by reflecting students' high levels of satisfaction with the TTHGS experience.
