The historiography of Mustafa Naîmâ Efendi in the spesial of History of Naîmâ

History, it is one of the important branches of science in the social sciences. History is about man and as long as man exists, history will always exist. As a social being, human is curious about his past, he searches the past with the concern of the future and makes predictions about the future. At this point, date and historiography come into play. Historiography of the Ottoman period, which is one of the subjects of our study, started in the middle of the 15th century. Although the understanding of historiography in the Ottoman Empire emerged as a continuation of the Turkish-Islamic states, over time it took on a unique feature. The first works that appeared in the genre of menakıbname, gazânâme and epic continued to be written under the name of Tevârȋh-i Ȃl-i Osman. By the 16th century, semi-official historiography activities, which started with the shahnâme tradition, became completely official with the institution of chroniclers established in the 18th century. The first chronicler task was given to Mustafa Naȋmâ Efendi. Born in 1655 in Aleppo, Naîma has an important place in Ottoman historiography as he is the first official chronicler. He witnessed important events as of the period he lived in, and with his duties at the state level, he had the opportunity to closely follow the events in the Ottoman Empire. His work, named Târih-i Naîmâ, which he wrote during his tenure, is important for us to understand his historiography method. It is important to know the method he followed in his work, which is widely used in every period and which is a reference source, his style of expression and the criteria for using the sources. In this direction, it is a shortcoming that the author's understanding of historiography, which is the source of many scientific studies, is not the subject of a study in a broad sense. This study tries to reveal Mustafa Naîmâ Efendi's understanding of historiography and his way of evaluating events in the history of Naîmâ.
