Using historical persons as role models in values education: The example of Kitâb-ı Ahmed ez-Zemci (1b-107b)

Folk tales narrate the struggles of Anatolia in the process of becoming a Turkish homeland through a heroic personality. Although this hero is a person whose historical existence is fixed, what is told is symbolic. The hero fights oppressors in every corner of the earth from the west to the east, and from the seventh heaven to the seventh floor of the earth. While the oppressors were rejected even by the nations to which they belonged, the heroes were embraced by many nations. The mission of the heroes is to eradicate oppression, no matter where it comes from or from whom. In the book called Kitâb-ı Ahmed Ez-Zemcî, the life and heroism of Ahmed ez-Zemci, who was considered a blessed person in Anatolia, who opposes oppression and oppressors and always defends the right, is told. This work, which we have discussed, has the feature of being the first translation in our literature with the work we have done. In addition to this feature, in terms of being a work that reflects the Old Anatolian Turkish, the importance of the work has increased once more, since it provides resources for those who are interested in studies in the field of language. In the literature section of this research, after the place of the Old Anatolian Turkish period in our history is given briefly, detailed information about "Kitâb-ı Ahmed ez-Zemcî" is presented. Along with the translation of Kitâb-ı Ahmed ez-Zemci, the sources used in the index and analysis of the text and the works in which the name of Ahmed ez-Zemci is mentioned are emphasized. In the findings section, the source work has been examined in terms of values education. In the text section, the text has been transferred to Türkiye Turkish for the first time with translation transcription letters. In the index section, a detailed grammatical index of the text has been created. In the Discussion, Conclusion and Suggestions section, the results and suggestions reached in our study are mentioned. This research; It provided the support materials needed for Linguistics, Historical Turkish Dialects and Türkiye Turkish courses taught in Turkish Language and Literature Education and Turcology departments. In addition, by examining the work in terms of values education, it has been revealed that it is an important material for the Turkish Language and Literature course in the context of contributing to the Turkish language and culture.
