Abstract (EN)

Functional plumbing systems, consisting of heating-cooling, ventilation-lighting, roof drainage and clean-waste water systems, play a very important role in the survival and providing comfort conditions.of historical buildings which have documentary value for humanity and constitute the cultural heritage. The proper functioning of these systems contributes to the sustainable protection of buildings.Recognition and understanding of these systems is also important for the proper preparation and implementation of conservation and restoration projects. Functional systems created by taking environmental data into account in the limited conditions of the period in historical buildings have unique energy efficient features. The design features of these structures have been created in accordance with environmental data for heating, cooling, lighting or ventilation without using today's technologies. Features such as building form, building envelope, building materials, building details are designed to meet functional systems and provide comfort conditions. It is important that these unique features of historical buildings can be used as a guide in our building designs, where energy efficient design becomes more important every day, and the possibility of adapting energy efficient design features to today's buildings. In the thesis study, it is aimed to develop a method proposal for the recognition and understanding of functional systems in historical buildings, revealing energy efficient design features, and evaluation of functional systems in historical buildings in terms of energy efficient design. For this purpose, a literature review of the subjects of functional systems in historical buildings, energy efficient design and public buildings of the First National Architectural Period, which constitutes the sample area of the study, was carried out. National and international regulations related to energy efficient design and energy efficient design in historical buildings have been scanned, and original tables have been created for evaluation. The architectural features and functional systems of the public buildings of the First National Architectural Period were listed, and tables were created to evaluate the contribution of these systems to energy efficient design. The structures forming the sample area were evaluated according to these tables and scored for each section. According to the scores they received, the energy efficient design qualities of the functional systems and architectural features of the buildings were determined and calculated as a percentage.
