Abstract (EN)
Dervish lodges, like mosques and madrasas, emerged with Islam. The main purposes of mosques and madrasas, which are the most common architectural structures in the lands dominated by Islam, are worship, social solidarity and education. Dervish lodges are structures established to combine these principles with a unique architectural understanding. Anatolian geography is very rich in typologies of dervish lodge structures, as it is the cradle of civilization and different cultures. In Konya, one of the central cities of Anatolia, there are many dervish lodges, especially since it was the capital of the Anatolian Seljuk State. In addition, the dervish lodges built during the Karamanoğlu Principality and the Ottoman Empire are also encountered intensively. In the thesis study, dervish lodges structures were examined with all their elements. The typologies of the dervish lodges built in the Anatolian Seljuk and Ottoman periods are explained. 7 basic typologies seen in the lodges located in the center of Konya province have been determined based on these typologies. Within the scope of the determined classification, 7 lodge structures, whose architectural program, plan and features can be clearly read, were selected for each typology. It is aimed to determine and document the structures of dervish lodges through typologies. In this context, the thesis consists of 6 chapters. In the first part of the study, the definition, aim and method of the subject are explained and the main sources referenced were examined. In the second chapter, in order to resolve the confusions that arise in the naming of the dervish lodge structures, it is explained which structures the terms dervish lodge, zawiyah, khanqah, asitane refer to. In the third chapter, the architectural features of the dervish lodges and their development in the period were examined, and the typologies of the dervish lodges that emerged in the Anatolian Seljuk and Ottoman periods were determined. In the fourth chapter, the surviving dervish lodge structures in Konya were examined within the framework of the determined architectural typology. In the fifth chapter, the dervish lodges were evaluated in terms of plan, facade, material and ornamental features. In the sixth chapter, the conclusion obtained in the thesis study are explained.
