Awareness of gynecological cancer in textile workers and attitudes of workers towards cancer screening programs

This descriptive research was conducted to examine the gynecological cancer awareness of women working as textile workers. The research was conducted with 210 women working at Mızıkçı Tekstil and İki Bahar Tekstil in Kastamonu province between 15 April and 15 October 2022. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, Gynecological Cancers Awareness Scale. ANOVA test was applied when evaluating the data. The average age of the women participating in the research is 38.46 ±9.05. The total average score of women from JİKFÖ is 137.56±23.16. It was determined that 74.8% of women did not have regular gynecological examinations, 69.0% had never heard of gynecological cancers before, 55.2% had no information about KETEM, and 83.3% did not benefit from screening services for gynecological cancers. The gynecological cancer awareness of the women who participated in the study, who had high school education or above, were middle-income, had knowledge about vaginal discharge, had knowledge about KETEM, and had a regular sexual life, was found to be significantly higher (p<0.05). At the same time, the gynecological cancer awareness of women who performed external reproductive organ examination, heard about gynecological cancers before, knew the symptoms of gynecological cancer, and benefited from screening services for gynecological cancers was found to be significantly higher (p<0.05). Women can be supported to receive training/consultancy services regarding early diagnosis methods and risk factors to increase their awareness of gynecological cancer.
