Abstract (EN)

There is a large variety of definitions of culture. To define it in general terms; everything that belongs to and is about humankind is culture. One of the most important factor that constitutes culture is value. Value is, briefly, all kinds of widely accepted or adopted sentiments, thoughts, behaviours and rules in the society. The objective of this thesis is to be a reference for the researches to be conducted within the context of cultural differences and values on television. The hypothesis of this work is that the cultural differences are being represented in the context of values in television series. In order to strengthen this hypothesis, the literature review is used as the methodology. Based on this, the scope of the study and the roadmap of the thesis are included in the introduction, and later on, the method is explained. The first section includes definitions of culture, as the second section includes theories developed to explain cultural differences. In the third section, the subjects of representation, media representation and television representation take place. In the conclusion part of the study, it is emphasized that the fast consumed nature of television makes it difficult to keep the academic studies up-to-date in this field; suggestion on further studies is made; and although diversity in representation is theoretically possible, the difficulty of implementation is discussed.
