Evaluation managerial perspective of environmental management practices on thermal hotel business

The aim of this research is to evaluate the management of thermal hotels operating in Turkey with environmentally sensitive accommodation facility document from the point of view of senior managers or owners of environmental management applications. Qualitative research methods have been utilized in the collection and analysis of data. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the 12 top managers of the 13 thermal hotels which make up the population of research. Content analysis method was used in the data transcription process. The transcribed data were coded by using the information in the literature within the direction of the research purpose in order to determine sub-themes. The research indicate that managers are very conscious about environmental management practices and resources sustainability in tourism and that are among the most important decision makers in environmental management practices. The results exhibited that the determinants of the environmental management system and its applications in thermal hotels are composed of 3 factors, namely, (1) cost and efficiency, (2) internal dynamics and (3) external factors. It has been also specified that the most important applications within the scope of environmental management in thermal hotel enterprises are related to energy, waste and water management, and the biggest advantage in this regard is achieved as "cost saving". Furthermore, the research has been conducted by managers in a series of conclusions on the development of an environmentally sensitive accommodation facility campaign.
