Abstract (EN)

The Timurid Empire, which emerged on the historical stage in 1370, was founded by Emir Timur, who throughout his life aimed for his state to expand its borders and remain powerful for a long time. Timur knew well that the continuation of his state as a dominant power depended not only on himself but also on his successors. Therefore, he placed great importance on the education of the members of the dynasty who would come after him. In the Timurid Empire, since the state was the common property of the dynasty, every mirza had the right to ascend the throne. Timur, valuing the institution of mirza, established a system that would ensure their development in every field. According to this system, Timurid mirzas were meticulously trained by special individuals from the moment they were born. In their childhood, under the responsibility of the atabegs assigned to them, they received lessons in many fields, ensuring they received a good education. When the mirzas reached a certain age, Timur reinforced their military training by assigning them various duties in campaigns. In addition to military training, the mirzas, accompanied by their assigned atabegs, were appointed to provinces specified by Timur, assuming full responsibility for those regions and having the opportunity to develop themselves politically. Although their power was limited and they were subordinate to the central government in these provinces, the mirzas gained experience similar to that of a ruler. After Timur's death, the mirzas continued his policies, particularly in the fields of science, economics, and architecture. They preserved his legacy in these areas and made significant contributions. On the other hand, although Timur had declared his grandson Mirza Pir Muhammed as heir apparent before his death, other mirzas who had reached certain positions in the state apparatus did not abide by this will. Following Timur's death, great struggles erupted among the members of the dynasty. Timur's son, Mirza Shahrukh, suppressed these rebellions, ascended the throne, and strived to establish his own rule by suppressing the uprisings. Although Mirza Shahrukh tried to preserve the state as it had been during his father's reign, after his death, the rebellions and power struggles among the mirzas became increasingly violent and bloody. Mirza Abu Said, who ascended the throne, struggled with the uprisings instigated by the mirzas during his reign and was unable to adequately address external powers. Although Mirza Husayn Baykara tried to suppress internal rebellions after ascending the throne, he could not prevent the collapse of the state. The main problem chosen for this thesis is the impact of these rebellions on the state. The main problem of our study is how the roles of the Timurid mirzas in the state organization and the rebellions they initiated affected the future of the Timurid state. In this context, one of the sub-problems that emerged in the research is the question of what contribution the education they received and their assignments to provincial centers made to their upbringing. Subsequently, the influence of politics on the marriages of the mirzas will be examined. Furthermore, the policies adopted by the Timurid mirzas regarding the cultural heritage left behind by Timur will be evaluated. Another dimension of the research is the assessment of the influence and roles of the mirzas in the wars during the reign of Emir Timur. In this context, the study aims to clarify the positions of the Timurid mirzas within the state organization. Finally, the reasons for the mirza rebellions within the Timurid state system and how these rebellions affected the collapse of the state will be examined. In light of this problem, the damage caused to the state by the increasingly intense rebellions will be examined in periods to find answers to the questions.
