Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is an increasing public health problem in today's world. Micro and macro vascular complications that develop during the illness process effects patients` mortality and morbidity. In this study we tried to enlighten the effects and relations of molecules called cerebellin and betatrophin in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus on pathophysiology of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Within this study, which is conducted in Firat University Medical Faculty Department of Internal Diseases, Endocrinology and Metabolism Diseases and General Internal Medicine Field polyclinics, newly diagnosed total of 30 type 2 diabetes patient and 30 health individuals were included in the control group. The patients were then divided into 3 groups; ones with new type 2DM diagnosis (before treatment), ones with 2000mg metformin treatment for 12 weeks (after treatment) and the healthy individuals. Blood and saliva samples were taken from the patients before and after the treatment. These samples were also taken from the healthy individuals. From the available samples, cerebellin and betatrophin, AKŞ, TKŞ, HOMA-IR, HgbA1c, HDL, LDL, TRG values and c-peptide, insulin levels were studied. Intra-group comparison was carried out. Findings: between the control and pretreatment groups, in AKŞ, TKŞ, HOMA-IR and HgbA1c levels significant differences were statistically determined. There were no significant difference on HDL, LDL, TRG values, and c-peptide, insulin values. Cerebellin and Beta trophin levels were compared in serum and saliva. Betatrophin serum levels (p<0,06) were found close the statistically significant value (p<0,05). Between the pre and post treatment groups, among AKŞ, TKŞ, HOMA-IR, c-peptide and HgbA1c levels, statistically significant differences were found. In HDL, LDL, TRG and insulin values, no statistically significant differences were found. Cerebellin and Betatrophin levels were compared in serum and saliva. Intra-group and among the groups, statistically significant difference was not confirmed. Also, although the cerebellin and betatrophin levels of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were not statistically significant, type 2 DM was thought to have a role in pathophysiology. Key words: Type 2 diabetes mellitus, cerebellin, betatrophin
