Funerary steles which date back to the Hellenistic and Roman Periods from Tire Museum

In this study, grave steles found in Tire area which are dated to Hellenistic and Roman İmperial Period and kept in Izmir province Tire borough Archaelogical Museum are diccussed collectively and analyzed in the subheadings of funerary steles, stele types and figure types. The iconography of funerary meal scenes is also discussed beacuse of excessiveness of funerary meal scened steles.In the second chapter, by putting account the prior studies, origins of funerary meal motif accentuated. Within the development process of the scene, Tire Museum's funerary meal scened steles evaluated with the similar examples. Tire Museum's Hellenistic and Roman İmperial Period steles are discussed with the similar examples. Steles are discussed within the subheadings of pedimental and non-pedimental and development of local stele types are elucidated. Moreover, several facts obtained about the workshops that used in handling the steles found at Gölluce and Uzgur.Figure types chapter discussed within the subheadings of male and female types. Development of figure types and effects to the development of steles of Tire Museum accentuated. The steles that involved in our study are dated by comparing with similar examples. Knowledge obtained from results of this study are represented with support of maps, tables and plates.
