The reflection of the female heroes of Tolkien's fantasy on the character designs in contemporary illustration art

Throughout human history, it has discovered ways of communicating. Illustrations are one of the most important means by which we provide our communication visually. With the advancement of history and technology, illustrations have always found a place for themselves. The stories that people have told throughout history have become more permanent with the accompaniment of illustrations. The fact that the character designs in the stories are catchy and the imagination are supported visually are realized thanks to the illustrations. Fantasy fiction and character designs are areas that grow with illustrations. The holistic visualization of the designs of the characters with a visual story connected to the text with the environment they are connected to shows that these areas are used in an interconnected manner. This thesis consists of three parts. In the first part; purpose and importance of the research, problem situation, assumptions, limitations and method, in the second part; illustration and illustration techniques, character design in illustration, the concept of fantastic in design and types of fantasy, in the third part; In the findings and interpretations, the illustrations of the heroines in Tolkien's universe were evaluated within the scope of the artists.
