Consumption and wastage: An evaluation on Ortaköy district

The main goal of this study which examines the consumption and wastage perception of the people of Ortaköy District: The factors affecting the consumption and the waste perception in the daily life of the people of Ortaköy and determining the part of religion and need among these factors. This study has three main limitations in terms of subject, time and place. In terms of subject, since consumption and waste is a general subject, we have examined the consumption with its religious, cultural and social dimensions as consumption society ideology determines the consumption and its reasons as need, brand and advertising. Determining the reasons of the waste as extravagance, stinginess, secularizing, abuse of merit and loss of consciousness of time, we also limited the waste as waste of food and clothes materially and waste of sentimental value as waste of people and time, and examined the waste with its religion and social dimensions. Our second limitation is time. In this part, the fieldwork of this study was made in (December 2019) and the period following was about analyzing the data and reporting process. The last limitation of our study is about the place. Our study was limited with Ortaköy District center. As a result of the research, it was determined that the need and religious manners played an active role in determining the behaviors related to the consumption and the waste, it was also observed that livelihood circumstances, socio-cultural status and capitalism also shaped the perception of consumption and waste of the district population.
