The first aid knowledge of the mothers having children at age 0-14 and the frequency of the situations requering first aid in tunceli-pertek district center

2. ABSTRACTThe accidensts encountered in childhood cause important health problems. As a prerequisite for social development, despite having been wished to be healthy for future generations, children in our country appear to be the most affected group by the health-related risk factors. It is indispensable to protect and support this group to initiate the health at home and thus to create healthy families and a healthy society. This research has been done in the town center of Pertek in Tunceli Province in order to determine the knowledge level of mothers with children between the ages of 0-14 concerning first aid and the frequency of situations that require first aid.The microcosm of this descriptive-cross sectional study consisted of 526 mothers with children between the ages of 0-14 who live in the center of town of Tunceli-Pertek. 515 of the mothers included in the study were reached , and the response rate was 97.9%. The research data was collected by applying a face-to-face questionnaire including questions about some of the descriptive characteristics of the mothers, the mothers? households accidents requiring first aid encountered in the past one year, mothers'level of knowledge of first aid and first aid informationresources. Data were evaluated with statistical package program, percentage, X² analysis.It was detected that the children of the 45.0% of the mothers interviewed had at least an accident which required first aid in the past year, and the most common first-aid case was epistaxis (30.6%). It was detected that 52.0% of the mothers in our research wanted to obtain the first medical staff information concerning the aid from the Health Crew. It was detected that the vast majority of mothers expressed what needs to be done in case of emergency such as caustic eye splashes,getting electrocuted, burnings and also the phone number that needs to be called in case of emergency correctly.As a result, 75.7% of the interviewed mothers were found to have in sufficient knowledge of first aid. In accordance with this kind of research, the frequent types of accident common in children can be identified, accident prevention programs can be developed and the issues at which mothers have in sufficient knowledge, the first aid training can be given priority.Keywords: First aid, ages of 0-14 children, mothers, knowledge level, frequency.
