The archetype journey in Turkish story (1980-2000)

Archetypal Criticism aims to reveal the collective unconscious encoded in literary works by utilizing mythology, sociology, psychology and philosophy. Archetypes in the collective unconscious are universal behavioral traits that elicit similar feelings, thoughts and images among individuals. They also have the capacity to control and direct experiences. In the current study, stories of Murathan Mungan, Mustafa Kutlu, Cemil Kavukçu, Cihan Aktaş, Rasim Özdenören, Hasan Ali Toptaş, Erendiz Atasü, Ramazan Dikmen, Sadık Yalsızuçanlar, Selim İleri, Cemal Şakar, Hüseyin Su, Adalet Ağaoğlu, Yusuf Atılgan and Ayşe Kulin that were published in the forty-six story books between 1980 and 2000 were analyzed according to the stages of the journey archetype expressed in Joseph Campbell's work "The Infinite Journey of the Hero". The analysis of the results reveal how these Turkish storytellers reflect the journey archetype to the stories, how they use archetypes they reflect, and how archetypes affect the meaning of the stories.
