II SUMMARY Dissertation Thesis Türk - Iran Relations (1923-1938) Mehmet KAYA Fırat University The Institute of Social Seciences Division of History Elazığ - 2004, pape XI + 233 Iran is one of teh most important states in the Middle East Important states were founded in this area from antiquities. Because of it's geographical position, Iran was exposed to various invasions throughout the history. Respectively Iran remanined under the sovereingnties of Alexander The Great, Muslim Arabs, Turks and Mongols. After a long time it could became a sovereign state. Iran which was a successful state with Tamberlane became strong in the safevis period. During this period, affairs between the Ottoman Empire and Safevis were usually negative. At tha end of the eighteenth century Kajars began to administer the state. Then economocial and political crisis started. At the begining of the nineteenth century England and Russia wanted to benefit thes situation and began to have authority in this state to exploit it Russia dominated the north and England dominated the south of Iran in 1907. Iran became more important place after petroleum had been found in 1908. Iran began to attract more attention by the emperyalist states. In 1921, Rıza Khan had power to govern the state and became shah in 1925. This became the turning- paint for the state. The shah tried to send the emperyalist powers out of the state. In the other hand he achieved many different reforms to make his country modern and contemparary. But these reforms were insufficient. While he did these reforms, he followed Atatürk. After the first world War The Turkish Republic was founded During this time there were some kurdish and harder disagrements between Turkiy and Iran. But Atatürk was able to solve these problems. Good affairs period between these two states started after the agreemants in 1926 and 1932. After Rıza Shah had visited Turkiy in 1934, The affairs between Iran and Turkey lived it's golden years Key words : Iran, Turkey, Russia, England. Imperialism, Rıza Shah.
