Abstract (EN)

Religions, beliefs and ideologies on earth accepts some days or nights which holds societies together-apart from the other periods of time- as more sacred. Accordingly there are some important days, nights and months in the life of society that stems from the faith and tradition. Due to a number of incidents that occurred in these time periods celebrations and ceremonies are held. Special days celebrated in unity has kept social and cultural lives of people alive. Islam has these special days and nights,too. Although there are some differences in celebrations, one of the special days for muslims is Ashura Day and the dessert made on this day is called Ashura. Ashura Day which is considered sacred by ,Arab, Israeli and Persian nations is on the tenth day of the first month of the Hijri calendar. In light of the information from historical sources, it is believed that many prophets worked miracles on this day. In this study, Turkish cuisine culture and the role and importance of Ashura in Turkish cuisine were examined. Keywords: Ashura, Ashura Day, Faith, Turkish Cuisine Culture
