Abstract (EN)

In this study, the formation and development process of the concept of visual activism in Turkey has been examined chronologically within the framework of political, cultural and sociological events. Document and archive scanning, library research, digital articles and artist reviews as well as qualitative research methods were used. Inspired by the works of New York University professor Nicholas Mirzoeff on visual culture, visual activism was evaluated in the light of political, economic and social developments in Turkey. 18. from the perspective of a single point in the century to today's multi-perspective media tools, visual concepts are constantly changing with the cultures and practices of societies. This process brings with it the commodification of societies to represent their own cultures and under the influence of capitalism. The forms of representation of societies are organically connected to social events, political arrangements and economic factors. Works of art should also be evaluated with the life of the artist and the conjuncture of the period in which the work was made. Historically, activism has been based on class struggle and emerged as political actions organized by culturally oriented masses. Visual activism in Turkish art covers various branches of art, from painting to digital photography, and is inspired by the activism of social representations.
