Awareness of Turkish teachers about active learning and their application status of active learning in lessons

The main purpose of this research is to determine the awareness / competencies of Turkish teachers about active learning in Turkish lessons and their application of active learning in Turkish lessons. The "Mixed Research Method", in which qualitative and quantitative designs are carried out together, was used in the study. The data of the study were collected from Turkish teachers working in educational institutions in the central districts of Van (İpekyolu, Tusba, Edremit). In this context, 128 Turkish teachers who carry out educational activities in the central districts of Van in the 2020-2021 academic year constitute the working group. The study group of the research was formed by using the appropriate sampling method, one of the non-random sampling methods. In the study, the "Semi-Structured Interview Form" developed by the researcher for the collection of qualitative data, and the "scale of the application of active learning activities in the Turkish course" developed as a five-point Likert was used in the collection of quantitative data. Content analysis were used in the analysis of qualitative data, and nonparametric statistical techniques were used in the analysis of quantitative data. At the end of the analysis made on the quantitative data of the research; It has been determined that Turkish teachers use active learning techniques at a high level in their lessons. "Taking active learning course" was found to be significantly effective in the findings about the effect of independent variables on the dependent variable. On the other hand, the effect of the variables of "gender, professional seniority, the faculty of graduation, graduate education" with the dependent variable was found to be insignificant. In the qualitative dimension of the study, it was determined that Turkish teachers have sufficient knowledge and awareness about active learning in theory and practice. It was concluded that the results obtained in the qualitative dimension of the study significantly supported the data obtained in the quantitative dimension.
