Concept area of compound words formed with numbers in Turkish language

Compound words are among the language elements of Turkish with rich meanings. Compound words are often formed by the combination of two words in the language, sometimes more than two words. This association often lays the groundwork for a new lexicon. Compound words, which exist in every period of Turkish, have been one of the important word patterns that science branches applied to Turkishize foreign terms in the Republican period. Beyond the combination of words, compound words are of great importance in terms of the concept area they cover. The compound word formed through the merger indicates a different conceptual field. Compound words have reached interesting dimensions not only in terms of structure but also in terms of meaning and concept. One of the structures that make up compound words is compound words that contain numbers. Numbers play an important role in word combinations in Turkish. Compound words whose one or more elements are numbers have remarkable features in terms of concept area. In compound words derived by word combination, numbers have contributed to the conceptual field of the compound word formed by preserving their basic meaning. However, in a significant part of the findings, numbers have separated from their basic meanings and formed the concept area of the compound word in the context of denominator and metaphorical meaning. The aim of the study is to determine the compound words formed with numbers among the compound words in TDK Turkish Dictionary, Kubbealtı Misalli Büyük Turkish Lügati and Ötüken Turkish Dictionary and to classify the conceptual fields of these compound words. In this direction, the related dictionaries were scanned in the scanning model and examined with the document analysis method. The obtained data are arranged in ascending order according to the number and place value. Compound words formed with the numbers determined as a result of the research, Anatomy, Slang, Military, Astrology, Hunting, Gambling, Ballistics, Plant Science, Maritime, Grammar, Religious-Sufism, Diplomacy, Education, Literature, Handicrafts, Philosophy, Physics, Food, Clothing, Astronomy, Folklore, Aviation, Aviation, Animal Science, Intelligence, Chemistry, Finance-Economics, Mathematics-Geometry, Metaphor, Mythology, Architecture, Music, Automotive, Game, Psychology, Cinema-Theatre, Sports, Jewelry - It is classified under the headings of Jewellery, Medicine, Social Science and Earth Science. In the determination of these concept areas, modern science branches were taken as basis. The naming of the concept areas was done by taking expert opinions and the reliability coefficients were calculated. Compound verbs among compound words formed with numbers are not included in this study because they are the subject of another study. In line with the results of the study, some suggestions regarding the spelling, determination and analysis of compound words are given.
