Abstract (EN)

Poverty, in its most general sense, is defined as the lack of adequate means to sustain people's lives. The definition of poverty differs depending on which parameter is used to define poverty, and poverty typoligies emerge. With the implementation of neo-liberal economic policies, capitalism and globalization have begun to make their impact more visible in society; enriching the ric countries; it further impoverishes the third world countries. As a result, inequality in income distribution increases; the gap between the rich and the poor is growing. In this study, the role of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality in fight against poverty was analyzed with the samples of Yenidoğan and Gazipaşa Neighborhoods. Social assistance such as food, education, housing housing and fuel, health, work and employment, other social assistance and services offered by the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality have been evaluated and recommendations have been made at the points that are insufficient. Keywords: Poverty, Urban Poverty, Local Governments, Metropolitan Municipality, Eskişehir.
