Abstract (EN)

Basic language skills affect both the academic life and social life of children. Therefore, language skills that will be developed at an early age will have a positive effect on the future life of children. Continuing the process of developing language skills, which will affect children's lives so highly, outside of schools will increase the permanence of the process. The inclusion of children's libraries in the process of developing basic language skills will also help to make the child's language skills education permanent. Therefore, knowing the current state of children's libraries will contribute to the services to be developed for basic language skills education. In a world where everything changes, it is important for children's libraries to change, to keep up with the times, to continue the existence of children's libraries. As a result, the provision of different types of services for children, apart from the book service offered by traditional libraries, will also affect the future of children's libraries. Independent children's libraries affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism were examined in the research. The scanning pattern was used in the study. Statistical information about the current state of children's libraries has been obtained from the General Directorate of Libraries and Publications. In addition, in order to learn more about the current state of children's libraries, three different semi-structured interview forms have been prepared to be applied to parents, children who actively use the children's library and children who do not use the library. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that the current situation of children's libraries is inadequate. In addition, it has been observed that the opinions of parents and children coincide with the inadequate status of children's libraries.
