The organizational structure and recruitment process at English language preparatory programmes in Beykent, İstanbul Bilgi and Bilkent Universities in Turkey and Lehigh University in the U.S.A.

The purpose of this descriptive study is to compare and contrast the organizationalstructure and recruitment process at English Language Preparatory Programmes inBeykent, stanbul Bilgi, Bilkent Universities in Turkey and Lehigh University in theU.S.A. The methods and procedures used in collecting data for this study werequalitative, gathered via literatura research and the Internet.In this study, the English Preparatory Programmes are defined, following anintroduction of the history and the development of university education in Turkeyand the U.S.A. Further, objectives, organizational structure and student evaluationprocess of English Language Programmes in chosen universities are given as a priorinformation. In addition to this, organizational structure of the programme,application prerequistes, selection process, orientation programme, probation, theprocess of performance evaluation and induction programme for lecturers aredetermined. Following this, the differences and similarities among theseprogrammes in organizational structure and recruitment process are explored.Findings of the study show that, the organizational structures of the programmes inEnglish Language Programmes in Turkish universities which are based on the sizeof the programme are similar. They are different from the programme in Americanuniversity because of its structure being formed for individual learning. Therecruitment process differences and similarities cannot be generalized as thepractises have changed in every stage.In conclusion, the practises in Turkey are mostly similar to each other while thepractises in the U.S.A are slightly different from Turkey.
