Investigation of kaval performers opinions on kaval training in Turkey

Since the foundation of the Turkish Music State Conservatory, the kaval training has been continuing at the state conservatories of some higher education institutions. It is thought that the use of kaval in TRT Turkish Folk Music choirs in 1976 provided the most important contribution to the development process of this instrument. In the 1980s, the beginning of the training of kaval at the Turkish Music State Conservatory department, accelerated the development completely. The person who will receive an kaval training should first know the history of this instrument. Then, in turn, student must move to the grip and sound extraction section, be directed in this process and work with the help of an accurate study program. It is thought that the etudes in which the student will work should be condition-enhancing and should have a content at the same time. In this study, some information is given about what kind of studies should be done with the student during the kaval education period, what kind of way should be followed for the student to complete the deficiency and which songs should be trained from the start of beginning level studies. In addition, basic and historical information about the kaval has been tried to be presented. As a result of the study, an appropriate training model is targeted. The findings presented are based on information obtained from interviews with experts in the field. Keywords: kaval, experts, kaval education
