Abstract (EN)

The banking system plays an important role in the development and financial stability of a country's economy. The growth and development of financial markets are assessed within the framework of economic growth. The development of financial markets in Turkey began to develop with the increase in globalization activities after 1980. This development was accentuated after the 1990s and in the first decade of the 21st century. We can see that the banking sector constitutes a large part of the financial markets, especially in developing countries. Financial markets, by their very nature, are structures open to certain risks. When these risks increase, financial markets cannot function effectively and their interactions with the real sector are affected. The risks faced by financial markets arise with the emergence of problems in the components of the financial system and can affect the real sector and have a systemic effect. On the other hand, problems arising from the real sector can also affect the financial sector due to the mutual balance sheet relationship between the real sector and the financial sector. The objective of this study is to compare the financial performance of domestic and foreign banks operating in the Turkish banking sector.
