Abstract (EN)

In the process of globalization, the increasing relations between countries have not only remained in a certain dimension but have also made themselves felt in different fields. As a matter of fact, globalization is not only an economic phenomenon but also a phenomenon formed by the combination of many components. In this thesis, the relationship between globalization and democratization in Türkiye is investigated with time series analysis methods. In order to do this, firstly, the stationarity of the series covering the period 1970-2020 obtained from different databases is examined with the Extended Dickey-Fuller (ADF) and Phillips-Perron (PP) unit root tests. After investigating the long-run relationship between globalization and its components and democratization using Maki (2012) cointegration test, Breitung and Candelon (2006) Frequency Domain causality test was used to examine the short, medium and long-run causality relationships. In this framework, it has been determined that the variables consisting of the subcomponents of Liberal Democracy and Globalization undergo structural breaks at critical dates in the process, there is a long-run relationship from democratization to globalization, there is no relationship between economic globalization and its components and democratization, social globalization has a bidirectional effect on democratization, and there is a unidirectional and significant causality relationship from democratization to political globalization in the short, medium and long run. Accordingly, it can be interpreted that Türkiye has democratized and globalized in the long run.
