Abstract (EN)

This study analyses wage differentials in our country around the theory of equity. Studies undertaken on the motivation of workers have produced a theory on motivation. The "Equity Theory" of Adams is one of those. In this study we have looked into this theory in detail. Further we have pondered on similar theories, the situation of imbalance and reaction to it also we have looked into the studies undertaken about these theories. From the contributions individuals make to their working lives we have only chosen labour and education, and from those s/he gets back we have chosen wage, social benefits and social security. A questionnaire has been used to evaluate their working life. The important findings of the study are: Most individuals think that their in an imbalance between the educational skills they contribute and the wage they get in return. Though very few are satisfied with their income very few intend to leave their job. Half of those respondents who said that they were not getting enough in return for their skills i.e. their are not getting enough in return for their contribution. Most individuals felt a shortcoming when comparing their wages with others. Wage differentials effects most individuals. The individual sees wage differentials as a bigger problem then low wages in general. According to those individuals the question of wage differentials can be overcome through the a strong reaction against it. According to them privatisation has heightened the problem of wage differentials. It has become evident that during their working life they attach more importance to status and being valued rather then wage levels. Half of those respondents said that if they lost their job that they would accept it while some thought they would get depressed and commit suicide. One interesting finding is that married individuals are more likely to change jobs or leave a job then singles. Those satisfied with their wages are mostly working in the public sector.172 It is evident that wage differentials can cause severe social problems like depression and suicide. When the findings of the study on the working lives of the Turkish is evaluated it becomes evident that while some findings support the equity theory some others do not.
