Abstract (EN)

In addition to family and social environment including school, shaping children's effective elements in children's lives as they take what they see on the screen as role models and link it with their social life. In this era where it is widespread to take models and transfer what you watch to your social life, cartoons are the nurturers of children's imaginary worlds. Children consider the heroes in the cartoons as their friends and family or they even identify themselves with the heroes, and they endeavour to apply to their lives what they watch and observe in the cartoons. Thus, there is a strong link between the world of cartoons and the child. Cartoons play a role in enculturation as they are educational, instructive, and guiding. Until recently, Turkish children grew up under the cultural impact of foreign cartoon productions due to the lack of effective Turkish cartoon productions. After kids channels started operating and proliferated, the production of Turkish cartoons accelerated and got more diverse which resulted in a more balanced cultural impact. This study examines how cartoons are used as a means of cultural transmission and reviews the cultural transmission by focusing on the example of "Pepee" which is a Turkish cartoon.
