Abstract (EN)
With the 1648 Treaties of Westphalia, the principle of sovereign equality of states was established as a fundamental principle of international law and enshrined in a number of multilateral international agreements, including the UN Charter, and in the practice of international legal relations. Today, the principle of sovereign equality of states is a binding norm of international law, which consists of a combination of two inseparable principles of international law: state equality and state sovereignty. The principle of sovereign equality affirms that all States enjoy sovereign equality, have equal rights and duties irrespective of differences of an economic, political, social or other nature, and are equal members of the international community. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the legal content of the principle of sovereign equality of states and its application in modern international law relations.
