The study of determinants of university students information attitudes and behaviors about voluntary blood donation

Blood transfusions for the first time had been carried out in the mid of the XVII century. It has been continuing as a necessity from the past to present. The most important reasons for the need for blood transfusion are; Impotence prevention, platelet supply, liver diseases, bleeding, anemia, infectious diseases and surgeries. For, blood can only be performed by human beings and it cannot be produced via special formulates. Therefore, voluntarily donations is the vital issue in providing the blood. The population of this study consists of volunteer students from Avrasya University that admitted to participate in the survey between specified dates as 1 March 2016 and 10 June 2016. On the basis of sample size, random sampling method is used and it is reached to 514 students. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of the students at Avrasya University about voluntary blood donation in Trabzon. The data of the study collected the socio-demographic features of students with face to face meeting method and questions which evaluate the knowledge, attitude and behaviors of students about blood donation. As a result of implemented survey, data is analyzed with Statistical Package for Social Science for Windows (SPSS) 17.0 package program, number, percentage and schi square test. Confidence interval of results is 95% and the significance level is p<0.05. Within this direction, appropriate volunteer blood donor might be identified and trained. Furthermore, the number of active blood donor might be enhanced with the expansion of training circle to reach other volunteers.
