The mediator role of resilience on the relationship between personality traits and emotional expression styles of university students

In this study, it has been investigated whether resilience has a mediating effect on the relationship between, university student's personal traits and sub-dimensions as extroversion, neuroticism and psychoticism and sub-dimensions of emotion expression styles as happiness, sadness and anger. Sample of the study consists of 439 undergraduate, graduate and formation students enrolled in Gaziantep University in the spring term of 2018-2019 academic year. In the research, "Eysenck Personality Questionnaire - Revised Abbreviated Form", "Recover Yourself Power Inventory", "Emotional Expression Styles Inventory" and created by the researcher "Personal Information Form" were used. SPSS 25.0 statistical package program and SPSS macro program, Process v.3.4. used. As a result of the analyzes, there was a negatively weak strength and significant relationship between one of the personal traits, extroversion and neuroticism. There was a significant relationship between psychological resilience and extroversion, and a significant negative relationship with neuroticism. Between extroversion and expression of happiness; a significant positive relationship was found between neuroticism and expression of sadness. In addition, the sub-dimensions of the expressions of happiness, sadness and anger have a positive relationship with each other. It was found that psychological resilience had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between extroversion of personality traits and expression of happiness from emotional expression styles.
