Examination of the relationship between acceptance of couple violence level with psychological resilience in close relationships of university students

In this study, the relationship between the acceptance levels of couple violence and psychological resilience was examined in close relationships of university students. This study was conducted to measure the relationship between the level of acceptance of violence and psychological resilience. Correlational survey model was used in this research. The study group consisted of 577 undergraduate students from Necmettin Erbakan University in Konya. "Acceptance of Couple Violence Scale" developed by Foshee et al. (1992) and adapted Turkish by Sezer (2008) and "Short Psychological Resilience Scale" developed by Smith et al. (2008) and adapted Turkish by Doğan (2015) was used in order to collect data. The data on the sociodemographic variables discussed in the study were obtained through the "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher. The data obtained within the scope of the research were analyzed using the Independent Groups t-Test, ANOVA, Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney U and Spearman Correlation Coefficient Analysis. As a result of the study, it was determined that there was a low, negative and significant relationship between acceptance levels of couple violence in close relationships and psychological resilience of university students. The acceptance of violence between couples was examined by gender, the acceptance levels of male students were found to be higher. When the acceptance of violence between couples was examined according to age, it was determined that students in the 21-23 age range had higher levels of violence acceptance than students in the 18-20 age ranges. Students who perceive themselves at high and low socioeconomic levels have higher acceptance of violence than students who perceive themselves at medium level. It was determined that students who were exposed to violence in their close relationships had a higher level of acceptance of violence than students who were not exposed to violence. When the psychological resilience levels were compared based on gender, it was seen that the psychological resilience of female students was higher than that of male students. It was determined that the psychological resilience levels of the students who were not exposed to violence in their close relationships were higher than those who were exposed to it.
