Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Se, vit E, vit A and vit D3 on fertility parameters of Awassi ewes estrus synchronized in breeding season. In the study, intravaginal sponges containing 20 mg of flugestone acetate (Chronogest CR®, Intervet, Turkey) was applied to 75 sheep. Subsequently ewes were divided into two groups. For ewes in the first group (Group I, n=38) 1 ml of selenium and vit E (1 mg/1 ml of sodium selenite and 60 mg/ml of Vit E, Yelvit®, Teknovet, Turkey) with 1 ml/50 kg vit A, vit D3 and vit E (200,000 IU vit A /ml vit A, 30,000 IU/ml vit D3 and 20 mg/ml vit E to Adevil®, Vilsan, Turkey) were administered intramuscularly. Ewes in the second group (Group II, n=37) were considered as the control group. In both groups, sponges were left in for 9 days and When the sponges were removed, 500 IU PMSG (Chronogest/PMSG, 6000 IU, Intervet, Istanbul, Turkey) and 250 mcg cloprostenol sodium (Minoprost®, Vilsan, Turkey) were administered intramuscularly. The ewes in the first group (Group I) second injection of 1 ml/50 kg Adevil were administered on the day the sponges were removed. The rams joined the herd for an hour twice a day, morning and evening 24 hours after the removal of sponges. The ewes which estrus were detected and their mating were completed were separated from the herd and taken to a different compartment. The estrus rates, conception rates, pregnancy rates, kidding rates, and litter size in Group I and Group II were 86.11% and 85.29% (P=0,922), 74.19% and 58.62% (P=0,275), 63.88% and 50%(P=0,334), 100% and 100% and 126.08% and 123.52% (P=0,858), respectively. In the present study, it was observed that fertility parameters were not statistically different in Awassi sheep administered vit A, D3, E and Se, but were positively affected proportionally. It was concluded that different studies should be conducted to reveal the effects of vitamin A, D3, E and Se administration on fertility parameters more clearly.
